Christina Harms, a retired Massachusetts judge, yesterday defended her decision that a mentally ill woman should have an abortion and be sterilized against her wishes.
Christina Harms also denounced Boston University for withdrawing what she said was a job offer amid the controversy, according to The Boston Globe.
Harms augmented that the 31-year-old pregnant woman with schizophrenia should terminate her pregnancy so that she could take her antipsychotic medication which would have harmed the baby.
“I believed then, as I do now, that she would elect to abort the pregnancy to protect her own well-being,’’ said Christina Harms. “She would want to be healthy.’’
According to newspapers, on Monday Harms sent a letter to a court judge in Massachusetts explaining the reasons for her decision.
