How Helicopter Collision Killed 7 Marines

A tragic collision of two marine helicopters killed seven US marines Wednesday night, military officials said.

The accident occurred during night training exercises near Yuma, Arizona, the Marine Corps said in a statement Thursday.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of incident. They did not yet release the identities of the Marines until their families were notified.

“We won’t know exactly what happened until the investigation is complete, and we can’t make any assumptions right now,” said 1st Lt. Maureen Dooley, a Marine Corps spokeswoman.

According to sources, the exact location of the crash has not been confirmed. Military officials earlier said it happened at a Yuma training range, but later said the helicopters collided just outside the complex.

Several incidents have occurred last year involving Marine training in Southern California.
